The Sun Bath
‘Fairies and their Sun-Bath’, the title of the fifth photograph cousins Frances Griffiths and Elsie Wright took in 1920 which convinced the nation they had found fairies in their back garden in Cottingley, Bradford.
The Sun Bath is a photographic exploration of the woodland area in Cottingley, where the original images were created by Frances and Else. The book takes an enquisetive approach to study the landscape with a playful eye. The images seek to find trails and trace from past movement focusing on details which could be previously left unnoticed.
The thoughtful and delicate design features of The Sun-Bath pay hommage to old fairy-tale books such as the original Grimms Tales, 1909 with illustrations by Arthur Rackham.
